NEWS@LINAK Motivation for healthy working Long periods spent sitting lead to health problems. That is the conclusion of several scientific studies in the US and Canada. David A. Alter of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Toronto concludes from his research that people who spend the entire day sitting down, apart from suffering muscle strain and back pain, are also at an elevated risk of contracting diabetes, high blood pressure, thrombosis – or even cancer. Yet we sit down for breakfast, in our cars and then throughout the whole day at the office. However, in the office at least, a clever idea has emerged for ending this marathon sit-down session: working at an electric height adjustable desk. The entire table surface can be raised at the push of a button, turning your sitting workplace into a standing workplace. Workplaces in many offices are already fitted with a sit-stand desk. Large businesses know that employees working at height adjustable workplaces work more efficiently and stay healthier. However, the problem is that many employees fail to take advantage of the opportunity to alternate between the two options during their workday. What is missing is that essential little „nudge“ – a reminder, or perhaps even a personal health coach, to tell us now and again that „it is time to stand up now!“ LINAK now provides exactly such a coach. This Danish company manufactures electrically operated lifting columns for sit-stand desks. LINAK produces more than just the lifting columns; it also produces the controls that go with them. „We are highly skilled in electronic disciplines. That is why it was no great jump to develop the software to make sit-stand desks even easier to use,“ explains Christoph Messing, who is responsible for LINAK German furniture business. The software provides a wide range of functions: It calculates how many calories the worker is burning while standing. They remind users at set intervals to raise or lower the tabletop. Besides controlling raising and lowering functions, users can also set goals for their physical activity. They can decide whether they want to spend a particular time of the day working standing up, or how many calories they want to burn up while on their feet. The system shows the desk‘s current position and allows you to pre-set preferred positions. A time graphic shows a history of how the desk has been positioned in the past. The software can be installed either on a Windows or on a Mac system. You can download it free of charge from the LINAK website. Once you have done that, all you need is a special USB cable to connect the LINAK control unit to your computer. You can obtain this cable from the manufacturer of your desk. www.linak.com info@linak.com Independence thanks to the battery solution BA001 Our DESKLINE® systems have become even more convenient with the help of the newly developed battery box BA001. For many applications, users no longer have to live with annoying cables. Mobile office desks, vehicles, armchairs and other products can now be adjusted using our battery system without any need for a connection to the mains. The BA001 provides a powerful capacity of 2.2 Ah as standard. This allows users to run the machine several times at maximum load before having to recharge. The BA001 is very easy to use, both during installation and de-installation and in daily usage. The battery is equipped with a mounting bracket as standard, into and out of which it can be clicked simply and easily. This makes it easy to replace batteries and minimises the effort needed to remove the battery for recharging. During daily usage, the battery box constantly shows how much charge is left in the battery via an LED indicator on the front of the battery housing. An alarm sounds when the battery needs recharging. The new battery BA001 Visit LINAK at the Interzum LINAK presents new products and exciting themes at the Interzum in Cologne.
